Why Choose HR?

HR is about more than just helping your employees, fundamentally it is about helping the business to drive towards its commercial objectives. During 2 years on scheme you will split your time in half experiencing the different challenges facing our commercial and operations teams. The roles will allow you to explore two Grocery Businesses gaining a wide understanding of the fast-paced world of FMCG. During your scheme, you’ll receive core management training alongside HR-specific development and can start a fully-funded CIPD Level 5 qualification.

What will you be doing?

One thing for sure, life in HR is busy, dynamic and ever changing.

You could be spending time:

  • Influencing senior stakeholders on policy changes,

  • Conducting Investigatory meetings,

  • Root Cause analysis on issue such as absence figures,

  • Planning structural changes to teams to maximise their performance for the business,

  • Listening, advising and questioning line managers.


    Who are we looking for?

    We are looking for people who are more than just passionate about helping people grow and develop. We want proactive individuals who can think logically to support problem solving within our teams. Our HR teams are commercially aware of the wider business context and think creatively about how HR can best support the business to get to where it is going.     What do our Grads Say? 

    Being a HR Trainee Business Partner, is fulfilling in many different ways. Having only worked in HR since last September, it’s a brand new experience for me and so far I’m enjoying every minute of it with ABF. I initially expected HR to be process-driven, and people-centric. My experience so far with ABWF has pleasantly surprised me in the sense that we aren’t restricted by processes, and are encouraged to be pragmatic and autonomous in our roles. The cross-functional interaction with a wide range of people, and the direct business partnering I engage in with our Sales function, are what I enjoy most about my role. Naturally, business partnering senior stakeholders and influencing some key business and people decisions are big challenges but the outputs are very rewarding. One of my main responsibilities this year has been to lead our succession planning in the Sales function. I have a close understanding of our people’s potential within ABF and engage with senior managers to ensure we are planning for the future effectively. The prospect of my future within HR and ABF, I think looks bright. I’m looking forward to experiencing HR in an Operational environment, and seeing where my career in HR progresses!
